Internships

Internships at 2SP offer an extremely hands-on experience that will help set you up for a career in the sports performance field. Internships are available each semester:

Summer Semester: May 6th, 2024 – August 16th, 2024
Application deadline: March 29th, 2024

Fall Semester: September 2nd, 2024 – December 13th, 2024
Application deadline: August 11th, 2024

Fall Baseball Off-Season (paid): October 2024 – March 2025
Application deadline: September 2024

Winter/Spring Semester: January 6th, 2025 – April 18th, 2025
Application deadline: December 1st, 2024

Internship Description:

2SP Sports Performance is full-service training company with four locations throughout southeast Michigan. Founded in 2007 by Joe Neal, Director of Athlete Performance, 2SP Sports has been committed to bettering athletes for over a decade. 2SP fosters a competitive championship atmosphere dedicated to challenging athletes to grow both mentally and physically. 2SP coaches believe that fitness, injury pre-habilitation, and peak athletic performance are built from the ground up through functional, movement-based training. 2SP utilizes proven exercise, consistent training methodology and proper equipment to strengthen the core, balance the musculoskeletal system, and improve upon the fundamental aspects of human movement. 2SP training methods are strategically, logistically and individually structured to fit every athlete from youth to professional sports.

Internship Objectives:

Upon completion of this internship, the student will demonstrate the following competencies:

  • The intern will demonstrate an understanding and application of the sports performance methods and techniques associated with 2SP Sports Performance
  • The intern will demonstrate an understanding and application of appropriate assessments, needs-analysis, population and sports season
  • The intern will demonstrate an understanding and application of movement prep, activation, movement training (including speed development, agility change of direction), plyometrics, and lower/upper body strength and power exercises
  • The intern will demonstrate an understanding and application of mental skills applied to athletics and language of coaching
  • The intern will demonstrate an ability to search, read, interpret and periodization techniques, exercises selection and progression
  • The intern will demonstrate the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with athletes, staff and fellow interns
  • The intern will demonstrate the ability to act in a professional manner the duration of the internship
  • The intern will demonstrate the ability to think critically and problem solve on a daily basis
  • The intern will demonstrate the ability to explain and defend exercise selection and programming for assigned athletes/assignments
Intern Responsibilities:
  • Expected to work from start date to end date
  • Expected to report to expected shifts as schedules as directed by internship coordinator at designated facility
  • Expected to report to intern meeting and presentation to coaching staff weekly (times to be decided) at Madison Heights facility
  • Complete assignments as assigned and report to shifts prepared to actively participate
  • Assisting and collaborating with staff personnel
  • Be able to give and receive constructive feedback and engage in learning environment daily
  • Meet the physical demands of performing demonstrations for athletes and clientele
  • Participate in intern-implemented performance training program at the discretion of the facility’s head coach
  • Conducting training sessions including dynamic warm-up and flexibility drills, multi-direction speed and agility drills, plyometric drills, core stabilization; including medicine ball work, upper and lower body strength training
  • Daily setup and maintenance of the training center including post-session break down and clean up, pre-session set up, and immediate reporting or any broken or malfunctioning equipment
  • Assist with front office and administrative tasks as needed
  • Chart keeping and programming for athletes as needed
  • Other duties as assigned at the discretion of 2SP Staff
Recommended Qualifications:
  • Be enrolled in professional-level internship college credit
  • Have knowledge in the field of strength & conditioning
  • Have previous experience in a fitness environment
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Excel

Internship Description

2SP Sports Performance is full-service training company specializing in rotational sports with five locations throughout southeast Michigan. Founded in 2007 by Joe Neal, 2SP Sports has been committed to bettering athletes for over a decade.
During this internship, you will be responsible for assisting in the execution of marketing efforts and initiatives for 2SP Sports Performance and its’ partners. You will contribute in developing content in support of company-wide campaigns, expanded web content, events and promotions using multiple platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more). Travel and attendance to various company locations and events as directed by internship supervisor. Primary location assignment will be Madison Heights and some remote work.

Internship Duties:
    Assisting with day to day operations

  • Managing social media accounts
  • Contributing to marketing campaign strategies and solutions
  • Assisting in creating and managing a monthly content calendar
  • Creative copywriting for social promotions, marketing campaigns, emails & more
  • Analyzing and reporting web & social traffic
  • Replying to comments, messages, etc.
  • Increasing lead generation through marketing efforts
  • Other duties as assigned
Recommended Qualifications:
  • Understanding of popular social networks
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of the basic principles of marketing and/or PR
  • Great time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Driven and self-motivated
  • Willingness to assist with all aspects of the organization as needed
  • Can receive and give constructive feedback
  • Knowledge of design tools is a plus (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Canva)
  • Experience with Constant Contact or Mailchimp is also a plus
